About Heritage Roof & Lead Co.
A Maidenhead roofing firm built around
old buildings and honest work
We repair, re-roof and re-lead period, listed and conservation-area properties across Berkshire and the counties around it, so the roof stops leaking, keeps its character, and does not need revisiting in three years.
Our story
Founded on the kind of roofing that is disappearing
Heritage Roof & Lead Co. LTD was set up by Thomas George to do one thing properly: traditional roofing and leadwork on buildings that deserve it. Most of the housing stock around Maidenhead, Windsor, Henley-on-Thames and the wider Thames Valley predates modern roofing entirely, Victorian slate terraces, Edwardian clay-tiled semis, timber-framed cottages, converted farm buildings and conservation-area streets where the roof is a large part of what the street looks like.
Those roofs fail differently from a 1990s estate roof, and they need different answers. A nail-sick slate roof is not fixed by replacing individual slates forever. A lead valley that has split from thermal movement is not fixed with mastic. A chimney that has been cement-flashed instead of lead-flashed will keep soaking the wall below no matter how many times someone repoints it. Getting these buildings right takes materials that match, details that allow movement, and people who have done it before.
We work almost entirely in that space, and we are equally happy on a straightforward modern repair when the same standard of work is wanted.
Thomas George runs the business, with a team of six to eight tradespeople and typically two to three on site for any given job, so you deal with the same small group from inspection through to sign-off.
Who we help
- Homeowners with a leak, storm damage, slipped slates or a roof that has reached the end of its life and needs replacing once, correctly.
- Owners of period and listed properties who need materials and detailing that will satisfy a conservation officer as well as keep water out.
- Landlords and property managers who want a clear, photographed record of the roof's condition and a fixed figure to put in front of an owner.
- Builders and architects who need a roofing and leadwork subcontractor who will not hold up the programme or undo the design intent.
What we specialise in
Natural slate and clay tiling, sand-cast and milled leadwork, complete re-roofing, flat roofing, chimney work, roofline and rainwater goods, and leak detection that finds the actual source rather than the nearest suspicious-looking hole.
Where we work
We are based at 151 Larchfield Road, Maidenhead, and work across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Hampshire and Oxfordshire: including Windsor, Slough, Reading, High Wycombe and Henley-on-Thames. See the areas we cover for local detail.
Mission & standards
Our job is to make the roof a problem you stop thinking about
A roof is only successful when you forget it exists. That means diagnosing properly before quoting, using materials suited to the building rather than the cheapest thing on the merchant's shelf, and detailing the awkward parts, valleys, abutments, chimneys, verges, so water is directed away rather than trapped. These are the standards we hold ourselves to on every job, large or small.
Traditional methods, done by hand
Natural slate is hand-sorted and holed. Lead is dressed on the roof rather than folded to a template. Ridge and hip tiles are bedded and pointed properly, not smeared over. It is slower, and it is the reason the work lasts.
Photographic evidence, every time
You should never have to take a roofer's word for what is happening 10 metres above your head. Every inspection and every leak investigation comes with a photographic report of what we found and what we did about it.
Fixed prices, in writing
We quote a fixed figure for the work described. No day rates, no open-ended labour, no discovering the cost at the end. If you ask for something extra, we price it in writing before we do it.
Insured and guaranteed
£2 million public liability cover on every job, and a 10-year workmanship guarantee on re-roofs, new roofs and major works. Smaller repairs sit outside that guarantee unless we confirm cover for your job in writing.

We deliberately do not publish job counts or guaranteed response times, because we will not put a number in front of you that we cannot evidence. Call us and we will tell you honestly when we can be there. Emergency repairs for storm damage and active leaks are available within our working hours of Mon–Sat, 7am–10pm.

Next step
Tell us about the roof and we will give you a straight answer
Send a few details and we will arrange a free inspection in most cases, then quote a fixed price in writing with photographs of what we found. No obligation, no pressure, and no vague estimate that changes later.
