01 / Services

Complete roofing and leadwork,
from a single flashing to a full re-roof

Every job is quoted at a fixed price and carried out by our own tradespeople. From natural slate roofing and clay tiled roofing to specialist leadwork and lead flashings, flat roofing and full new roofs and re-roofing. If your roof has years left in it, we will say so, the aim is the right work, not the biggest job.

02 / Why Heritage Roof & Lead Co.

Old buildings need old skills
and modern standards

Period, listed and conservation-area roofs are unforgiving. Get the coursing, laps, or lead detailing wrong and the building tells you within a season. That is why our work is built around traditional materials: natural slate, clay tiles, hand-made tiles and sand-cast lead, dressed and laid by hand rather than rushed with modern shortcuts.

Heritage Roof & Lead Co. is run by Thomas George, with a team of six to eight tradespeople and typically two to three on site per job. That keeps the work under the eye of the person whose name is on the company, and it keeps standards consistent from the first slate to the final ridge.

You get one fixed price, a written specification, and a 10-year workmanship guarantee on re-roofs, new roofs and major works, plus £2 million public liability cover behind every job.

Where we work

Based in Maidenhead,
working across the Thames Valley

We cover Berkshire and the surrounding counties from our base in Maidenhead, including roofers in Maidenhead, roofing in Windsor and roofing in Reading. See every area we cover across the Thames Valley. If your property sits just outside the list, call us; we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

The detail

Traditional roofing in Maidenhead,
explained plainly

Roofing on an older property is not the same trade as roofing on a new estate house. Slate sizes are graded and diminishing courses need setting out. Hand-made clay tiles vary and have to be sorted. Lead has to be sized to the right code, cut to allow for movement, and welted or clipped so wind cannot lift it. Where those details are skipped, the roof looks acceptable from the pavement and fails quietly at the valleys, abutments and chimney.

Our work is built to avoid exactly that. On a full re-roof we strip back, check the timbers and battens, and rebuild the covering with the correct underlay, fixings, ventilation and lead detailing for the building in front of us. On repairs, we trace the true path of the water before touching anything, leaks frequently enter well away from where they appear inside, and patching the stain rather than the cause is how homeowners end up paying twice.

Leadwork is a specialism in its own right, and it is in our name for a reason. Valleys, box gutters, soakers, step and cover flashings, chimney trays, parapets and bay tops are all formed and dressed on site by our leadwork specialists in Berkshire. Sand-cast lead is used where the building and its setting call for it, a common requirement on listed and conservation-area work, and something a general roofer often subcontracts out.

On flat roofs, the failure is almost always in the detailing rather than the membrane: standing water from insufficient falls, poorly formed upstands, or outlets that cannot cope. We set the falls properly and detail the perimeter so water leaves the roof. For chimney repairs and chimney removal we handle repointing, flaunching, rebuilds and full removals with the roof structure and covering made good afterwards, and our roof maintenance and cleaning keeps a sound roof that way.

Commercially, we keep things simple. Work is quoted at a fixed price, never a day rate, so your cost does not rise because a job took longer than we planned. Quotes and inspections are free in most cases, with the exception of jobs needing special access to inspect safely. Every inspection and leak detection comes with a detailed photographic report. Smaller repairs and maintenance are usually paid on completion; larger projects are staged, with an initial deposit covering materials and the start of works, then payments at agreed milestones through to completion.

Behind all of it: Thomas George leading the work, a team of six to eight with two or three on site per job, £2 million public liability cover, and a 10-year workmanship guarantee on re-roofs, new roofs and major works. Emergency repairs are available for storm damage and leaks.

Common questions

How do you price work, day rate or fixed price?+

Every job is quoted at a fixed price. We do not work on day rates, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay, barring changes you ask for in writing.

Is a quote or inspection free?+

Quotes and inspections are free in most cases. Jobs that need special access to inspect safely may differ, and we will tell you that before we attend.

What guarantee do you provide?+

All re-roofs, new roofs and major works carry a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Smaller repairs are not covered by that guarantee unless we confirm otherwise in writing for your job.

Are you insured?+

Yes. Heritage Roof & Lead Co. LTD carries £2 million public liability cover.

How are payments structured?+

Smaller repairs and maintenance are usually paid on completion. Larger projects running beyond five days are staged: an initial deposit covering materials and the start of works, then payments at agreed milestones through to completion.

Can you work on a listed or conservation-area property?+

Yes. Period, listed and conservation-area roofs are our specialism, using natural slate, clay tiles, hand-made tiles and sand-cast lead.

Do you handle emergency work?+

Emergency repairs are available for storm damage and leaks. Call us and we will tell you honestly when we can be with you.

What do I get after an inspection?+

A detailed photographic report. Every inspection and leak detection includes photographic evidence of what we found, so you can see the roof without climbing on it.
